Lynney Biddulph opened up her season account on Easter Sunday at the Mid-Shropshire Wheelers promoted 25 mile TT event. Joined by her National Gold medal winning 24 hour teammate from 2012, John Cornfield both braved the strong winds and cold conditions to put in outstanding rides among good competition. John Cornfield (JC) took to the course and covered it in a very respectable time of 1:05:39 to finish in the top half of the field and left Lynney to led the way to victory in the ladies event by over 4 minutes to stop the clock at 1:04:38.
Meanwhile at the start of the bank holiday weekend on Good Friday, Ian Manders, Steve Biddulph and Sue Semple headed off ‘Up North’ to take part in the City RC Hull promoted 10 Mile TT event. Conditions were less than favorable for the morning and the riders faced a strong westerly head return for the 5.5 mile return leg. Sue produced an outstanding time of 22:25 for which that gained her an excellent 4th place in the ladies event only 18 seconds shy off first place. Shortly after Steve Biddulph crossed the line with a time of 21:05, not too shabby considering it was his 8th race in 7 days (including track league and a 2-day stage race)! Ian Manders however, stormed to a fantastic time of 20:20 which is his second fastest 10 time recorded! Well on track for bigger improvements as the season gets under way.
While all this was happening in the Midlands and ‘Up North’, Clare Campbell-Smith took part in the Hounslow & District Wheelers 25 Mile Club event over a very challenging hilly course. Clare’s previous best time for the course was 1:11:03 and this time out she knocked off a mere 4 minutes to finish with a short 1:07!
Overall a cracking weekend for the BtB racers with other team members cracking on with training, preparing for events and we even had Jasmijn riding to France!
Next event up on the calendar is the much anticipated VTTA (Midlands) 10 Mile Time Trial Championship on the K11/10T course near Coventry. The team will be well represented at this event and will see Libby & John McLaren alongside Bob Awcock attending their first races of the season. Also on attendance will be Steve Biddulph, Dave Pemberton and super speedy Sue Semple!
